I’m seeing a lot of people looking to black Americans and Jewish Americans for guidance and affirmation that they are “okay”. That they aren’t racist or antisemitic.

It’s not their responsibility. If you have to ask for absolution, you have already answered your own question. Know that. Own it.

In so many ways this fight is not a battle between white America and everyone else. This has to be white America against white America and the first part of that is the most important. It is that moment where white people ask, with a legitimate desire to know, “Am I the problem?”

You have to be willing to see your ugliness, and do something about it. Without that, all the absolution in the world will not teach you. It will not bring about the necessary change.

Once you have done that…confronted yourself…you have joined the fight.
